    3. I would like to post my thanks to Keith Openshaw who gave us the entries for 4 family members that enabled us to find the grandparents as well also to Bernie Davies in Canada, we contacted the Cemetery records at Wigan, they are sending a plot detail so we can get an idea where the grave is when we visit on Sunday/Monday next!!!!! This has only taken less than 24 hours . We live in Stony Stratford so if any records are needed from Bucks I am happy to help!!!!! 1. [(ENG-LEIGH)] Fw: Tyldesley burials
    2. Bill Griffiths
    3. As I am new to the list my first question is this, am I in the right list for Tyldesley information and if so are there any lists for burials for Tyldesley cemetery c 1910-1945 held by members? I live in Bucks and hope to visit the cemetery this week-end in order to locate the grave of my husbands grandparents, as we do not know the exact dates of their death the search might be a long one!!!!!!My late mother-in law- was born in New Bank Street c1895 and spent some of her early married life in School Street. My second line of search is to camp out at my local library for several days and trawl through the B/D/M fiches!!!! Any help from any member will be gratfully received!!!!! 1. [(ENG-LEIGH)] Aldred,
    2. Arthur Aldred
    3. My Gr Grandfather, Richard Aldred was born in Leigh about 1830. He married Anne (?) from Northwich, Cheshire 24 January 1852, he died in Leigh, 6 October 1889. I belive he was a blacksmith/millwright for a mill in Leigh. He had a sister Mary m. Joseph Cunliffe and they had eight children. The children of Richard & Anne were; Samuel, m. Rachel : William, my grandfather, b. July 1856 m. Emma Humphreys, abt 1877, : Martha m. James Hindle ; Emily : Betsy : Richard m (?) had a son John Roland Hall Aldred in the early 1890s': Charlotte : and Annie. All this information I found in an old packet of letters and would like to find out more about my Leigh family. My grandfather, William immigrated to the United States about 1880 and after he died in 1906 there wasn't any more correspondence from his family. I would appreciate any information about my many cousins in England. Arthur Aldred awaldred@earthlink.net Why Wait? Move to EarthLink.

    3. My 3G Grandfather, Charles HULME, a Leigh resident, died on 9th January 1866 at Chequerbent when he was hit by a railway train. There was an inquest on 11th January. There might have been a newspaper report about it. Was this the Bolton-Leigh railway line? Was there a local newspaper in Leigh or surrounding area at that time? Where are the copies kept? I would be very grateful if someone could answer these questions for me. _________________________ malcolm@gulberwick.com Shetland Islands

    2. Hi Malcolm, The local paper for Leigh is The Journal, I think it used to be called The Gazette.  I know that they keep back copies of both these papers in Leigh Library.  I think that they are kept on microfilm or microfiche.  The address for Leigh Library is Leigh Local History, Turnpike Centre, Leigh Library, Leigh.  WN7 1EB.  Tel.  01942 404559.  E-mail heritage@wiganmbc.gov.uk I hope that this is helpful. 3. Dear Gwen Many thanks for the info you emailed. It was great and just what I was looking for. I have phoned both Thomas Hornby's numbers and was successful with the second. The elder one ( father) has died but the son was pleased to hear from me. Again many thanks. Reg

    2. Dear Reg, Out of curiosity, I went on Yahoo white page search for you. There are 2 Thomas Hornby's. One is 90 (probably the son still alive) and one is 53. Probably a grandson. So, they are still there. Look them up. Their addresses and phone numbers are listed. Gwen

    1. [(ENG-LEIGH)] Re: [(ENG-LEIGH)] American search
    2. Dear Reg, I looked Richard Hornby up in our 1930 census for you, and I found him and his family living in Universal Vermillion, Indiana at 5955 Ridge. He was employed in a coalmine as a miner. Him and his wife Mary immagrated to the U.S. in 1912. He was 57 in 1930 and Mary was 56. All their children, Thomas (16), Sarah (14), and Mary K (12) were born in Indiana. They must have migrated to Michigan at a later date than this. Since you are looking up living decendents, I would suggest using the online white pages and see if you can find any in Michigan. I hope this helps a little bit. Gwen

They had 3 children, Thomas, Sarah, and Mary and settled in Michigan, Lincoln Park. Each child married and had children. Thomas stayed in Lincoln Park I think and had 4 children. A daughter who moved to Nashville, a son who moved to Texas, the other two I do not know anything about. Sarah had 3 Thomas or Tommy, Ronnie and Joan. Ronnie I think ended up in Texas. Mary ended up in Gary Indiana Married a police man and had at least 2 children, a boy and a girl. > > All this info has been gleaned from letters written by Sarah to a cousin in England during the 1950's. > > There must be living relatives still about in USA so if you or anybody can help with tracing them I would be very grateful. > > Any web sights that would be useful to me would also be good. > > Many thanks in advance. > Reg Lowe. > > > ==== ENG-LAN-LEIGH Mailing List ==== > Our list covers the following towns: Leigh (inc.
