I have a Thomas Calland who Married an Elizabeth Seddon at St Mary the Virgin, Deane on 7th Oct 1731. The most likely birth/Christening, for Thomas, that I can see on the IGI is one in 1715. However this does not show any church or father but it states that this Thomas married Alice Mitchell in 1740. As these details have been submitted to the IGI are they wrong? or did Thomas marry twice?. Elizabeth had her last child in 1740, was that the time of her demise? I have a gut feeling that Thomas,s baptism in 1715ish would have taken place in St Mary's, Deane. St Peters, Bolton Le Moors or St Mary the Virgin, Leigh, in that order of priority. Because I am at the other end of the country and not likely to be in the area until next spring, it would be greatly appreciated if SKS could bear this in mind when next looking at these Leigh parish records and assist me with this brick wall. Hello to all, I am trying to locate information on my gr gr grandfather Joseph Bickerdyke who came to New Jersey, USA with his wife Matilda and son Israel. They were in the 1881 British Census in Dukinfield, Cheshire and had their first American born child in NJ in 1886. The census indicates that Joseph and Matilda were both born in Newton, Cheshire. I am trying to find the family background and on which ship they came over. I found an envelope addressed to Joseph Bickerdyke dated 1913 with a return address of: J Bickerdyke 230 Firs Lane, Leigh Lancashire England There was no letter in the envelope. Is anyone able to give me a lead as to the family line in England? I did find that Joseph's first wife Sarah is buried in the Dukinfield cemetary. Thank you, Kathy kathyo@kennett.net
Hi, Could SKP please tell me if it is possible to buy the 1871 Lancashire Census on-line? My son is willing to buy this for me for Xmas, but he ordered it from a company on-line and it is not due out until next year. Thank for your help. Pat in Kent.
Hi David, Why don't you go to the LDS Family History Center in Chorley. It is a lot more accessible for you. Bernice and Donna, Ref your recent postings. One of my ancestors, Thomas Calland b. 1764 Leigh, married a Ellen Crompton on 17th Feb 1789 in Leigh Parish Church. Its fairly close to your dates and I live in hope that someone on the list will come up with a Calland link at some stage? Bob Howard, Hampshire.
Hello I dropped Tony Ashcroft at Leigh Library a note re Postles Way Leigh. He called me this am to say that he hadnt come across this location before but he would keep his eyes open. Erm.... So Its a bit of an odd one really. Walter Davies was born 1879 on board a canal boat at Warrington. Mothers residence is given as Postles Row, Leigh. Father Thomas is a canal boatman. Addresses previous to this show:- James Davies born Lymm 1867 Alfred Davies born George St Pennington Mary Allice Davies born on board the Diamond, at Weaverham ( Little Leigh) 1881 census family at Chapel Walk Pennington 1890 Death of Thomas Davis Boatman at the Workhouse Leigh. 1891 Widow Mary at Chapel Walk Pennington So it could be the family were moving up and down the Weaver Navigation between Leigh and Northwich. If anyone comes across a Postles Row - Lancs or Cheshire - LOVE to hear from you. Cheers All Gill Hamilton in Southport

Hi all, Is anybody researching the HORRA(O)BIN family? Seeking info on James HORRABIN, b.c1869 Atherton. According to his marriage certificate, his father was Thomas. In 1881 James is in Cheshire and it looks as though his mother could be Maria b. Brockville, Canada. Also in Cheshire there is a Alfred HORRA(O)BIN also born Atherton, with grandmother Mary, b. Quebec, Canada. Any help on this brick wall appreciated. Thanks, Carol

Does anyone know if the monumental inscriptions for Tyldesley St Georges have ever been recorded, and if so where a copy may be found. If they have never been recorded, is anyone interested in looking into recording them early next year with myself. Keith
