    1. [(ENG-LEIGH)] PEMBERTON, PARTINGTON, BERRY
    2. Hi Folks If anyone is going to Leigh Library, and looking at St Georges Tyldesley in 1855 - I would appreciate a 2nd opinion. The witnesses at the wedding of William Pemberton and Mary Aldred at St Georges Tyldesley on Dec 15 1855 are Richard Partington and ???? Berry. Any thoughts on Mr Berry''s first name would be read with considerble interest :>) Anyone else attempting to unravel PEMBERTONs of Atherton and PARTINGTONs of Leigh - Love to hear from you. Cheers Gill Hamilton in Southport

    3. Thanks Barry Interesting! I spent my first few years at 95 Tyldesley Road, but across the street where I'd have expected 134/138 etc to be, were just more terraces - maybe the botanic gardens were built over. I tried to locate 134 Tyldesley Road using multimap (before the OS made it too expensive for multimap to provide the free service - blast the Os's eyes) and No.134 was missing! The numbers skipped from 132 to 136. The Gainsboro Studios and Benjamin Partington must have taken many studio photos of people in their best clothes which are now treasured relics in family history collections. That's how I came across the name; on a photo reportedly of my great grandmother Sarah CHARLSON (allegedly nee ALDRED). People at Atherton Amateur Photographic Society kindly dated the photo from dress style etc, and put it around the 1890s. Either Sarah Charlson had not weathered well, or the old lady was of the previous generation. Peter Wood

    3. Dear Listers My Grandparents emigrated to Australia in 1920's.Their families PRITCHARDS and COFFEYS lived around Atherton and Tyldsley. The Pritchards apparently moved up and down Tyldsley Road. My father was born in Tyldsley. Are there any historical societies that would have pictures of the areas early 1900's to 1930's or anything on line that I could access. My sister breezed through the area last year and thought the house in Tyldsley Road was now a car park?? thanks wendy fahey Wollongong Australia
