Hello, I have just joined this list in the hope that you can help me. I'm searching in that difficult period after the 1901 census. I am trying to find my great-grandfather. Very little is known about him. He was born in 1887 in Blackburn. He lived in Blackpool, where he met my great-grandmother and had a son, my grandfather. My great-grandmother had been married previously and her first husband was assumed lost in the war. However he had not died; he had been captured. He returned out of the blue and my great-grandfather left, not knowing that my great-grandmother was pregnant with his child. My grandfather never knew his father. Where he went next is unknown. I assume he stayed in Lancashire. My grandfather assumed he had died, but this might not be true; it might just have been something they told a little boy who couldn't understand where his dad was. Until the 1911 and 1921 censuses become available I think I am stuck. I have been looking for his death certificate. His name was John Thomas Edmundson, so I am trying to look with anyone of that name whose age at death would match a birth about 1887. I have looked at 1919 to 1945 but not found anything yet. Perhaps I should look at Edmondsons and Edmunsons in case the name is spelt wrong? Does anyone have any other ideas? Thanks, Stephen.
