Hope this is of some use to someone. Hello there, Olive! I was interested in the above because my father, whose family had moved to Blackpool sometime in the second decade of the 20C, joined the RAMC. He would have been 18 in 1915, so presumably enlisted around that time. If the family were living in Blackpool by then, he may well have been at the Squire's Gate base. So I wondered if you knew if the Library held any records pertaining to the base. It sounds as though the base was a training camp for the RAMC, do you know if this is the case? I know that my father was posted to Egypt during that war, but don't know from where or to which regiment there. It may have been from Squire's Gate, I suppose if he had trained there. I also know that he was back in Blackpool at the latest by 1921, and almost certainly earlier, because he was playing football in the Fleetwood Division of the Fylde League (FDFL 1st Divn.) and his team were runners-up in the 1st Division in the 1921-22 season (He received a medal for that!). Incidentally, I don't know anything about this League, what teams were in it and which team he would have been playing for in 1921/22. If you or anyone one on the list can enlighten me please get in touch. Cheers Henry
Hi Henry Email Blackpool Central Library, ask for Tony and say Olive sent you. No, it is not a secret code! Just that he knows he etc. There certainly is more information there, just ask and I am sure he will help you. Olive
