    1. Help please re: Army Barracks and SANDERSON family
    2. Barbara Whiteside
    3. Does any one know of an army barracks situated in Blackpool in 1902? Is it shown on early maps of Blackpool? I have an ANNIE SANDERSON father RICHARD SANDERSON born there in 1902. Any information on the barracks, and if it was the home of any particular regiment would be most helpful. Thank you. Barbara Whiteside.

    3. Barbara Are you sure that the barracks were in Blackpool? Have a walk round! Fleetwood Library have an article, written by H. Peters, about the Hutment Barracks. They also included some diagrams of the establishment, which show the location of the hospital, the canteen (operated by my great grandfather) and the other camp buildings. They also included a photo of the hospital. The Barracks was on the corner of Poulton Road and Cemetery Road/Lane (now Beach Road). The Queens Hotel was located across from the camp on Poulton Road. The Camp stood on 14.5 acres of land and was built in 1861 and closed at the end of 1929, at which time the Hutments and the rifle ranges were passed on to the Town. The boundary of the Camp was along Beach Road from Poulton Road to Shakespeare Road. Along Shakespeare Road to a line between what is now Borrowdale and Bramley Avenues. Along this line from Shakespeare Road to Poulton Road and then along Poulton Road back to Beach Road. The rifle ranges were next to the cemetery and bounded by Beach Road and Poulton Road. There were 3 by 900 yard firing mounds, 5 by 800 yard mounds, 3 by 750 yard mounds, 1 by 700 yard mound and a 1 by 650 yard mound. There are 2 Annie Sandersons in Freebmd under Fylde, which could match up with Fleetwood. The Squires Gate Army set up was not a barracks. I believe this was some kind of Army hospital. You can ask at Blackpool Library about this. central.library@blackpool.gov.uk Not sure when Weeton began, but the barracks are still there. Olive
