    2. 'Morning all. Here are the notable events for 1938:- Talbot Road Bus Station and Car Park. (Cost £115.000) Technical College opened by Earl of Crawford and Balcarres. North Pier Pavilion burned out for the second time. (19th June) Casino, Pleasure Beach disaster. Floor under construction collapsed. 4 men killed, 2 injured. St Johns Market cleared away from Church Street and re-established in King Street. King George V1 and Queen Elizabeth visit the Fylde coast and are given a rousing reception at Lytham-St Annes and Blackpool. Freedom of Blackpool conferred on Sir Cuthbert Grundy.(see note) Visit of H.R.H. Duke of Kent. Great re-building scheme to remove Gas Works, widen Central Drive to 100ft, re-build Central Beach and set Central Railway Station back to Chapel Street ( an estimated £2.000,000) approved by Parliament. Note ;- Cuthbert and John Grundy provided the finance for the building, in 1911,(£2.000) of the new municipal library. They were responsible for many charitable acts in and around Blackpool.
