Here are the Notable events for 1931 :- New lifeboat "John Rowson Lingard" launched for inspection (8th January) Gale (80 m.p.h.) and storm damage at Blackpool on 17th January and again on 12th February. Shop Windows blown in. Blackpool Times becomes a weekly paper. First issue 26th March. Kubelik, world famous violinist at Opera House (5th April). Winter Gardens extensions, Baronial Hall, Spanish Galleon, Tudor Room, Spanish Courtyard etc (28th May) Prime Minister J Ramsay Macdonald and Miss Isobel Macdonald open Stanley Park Municipal Aerodrome (2nd June). "Fairyland" amusemement arcade destroyed by fire (20th July) Death of "Ohmy", trapeze artist and circus empresario (August). Squires Gate Railway Station opened (14th September). Old well discovered at Ardwick Hotel, South Shore (21st September). Amy Johnson, pioneer woman aviator, lectures at Blackpool after her epic flight to Australia (27th September).
