Hi Everybody Its a lovely morning here in Daisy Hill, lets hope it lasts. Here are the Notable events for 1935:- Bond Street, South Shore, extended past Pleasure Beach. Death of Sir Walter de Freece. M.P. for Blackpool., 1924-1930. He had resigned owing to the ill health of his wife, Vesta Tilley. (7th January) New market building proposed. £300.000 drainage scheme approved for Anchorsholme and Little Bispham. New clubhouse, Stanley Park. Dreadnoughts, last of the old tramcars, withdrawn from service and broken up. (February) Sunday joy flights abolished at Stanley Park aerodrome. (20 February). Ban quickly withdrawn. Protests against Central Beach, (Golden Mile)-"an eyesore.....the happy hunting ground of cheap penny gaffs". Improvment Act contains a clause prohibiting "offensive and objectionable exhibitions of human persons". Manchester Hotel-rebuilding plans approved (£30.000) Grand National added to Pleasure beach. Road driving tests and 30 m.p.h. limits introduced. Wurlitzer organ installed at Winter Gardens. First played by Horace Finch. (April) John Roland Robinson, M.A., LL.B (Barrister -at-law, M.P. for Widnes) adopted as Conservative Pariiamentary Candidate for Blackpool and Lytham-St,-Annes. Britains Cotton Queen, Edna Taylor, of Oldham, elected at Tower Circus finals. (29th June) Sir Alan Cobham's Air Circus. 2 planes collide over town; plane parts fall on Cedar Square and Swainson Street. Pilot and 2 women passengers killed. Well, thats all for 1935.
