Dear Listers, As you have read, RootsWeb is preparing to migrate all mailing lists to a new list management system. There is no action required on your part. When the list is migrated to the new software ("Mailman," which is familiar to some of you already) there will only be a few little things that may affect you: - Your current subscriptions will remain. If you are currently subscribed in Digest mode, you will continue to be subscribed to the Digest, and if you are currently subscribed in List mode, you'll continue to be subscribed in List mode, BUT (there's always a but!) you will no longer be able to receive both the Digest AND the List versions at the same e-mail address. If you are currently subscribed to both Digest and List mode with the same address, you will only continue to be subscribed to regular List delivery when the list is migrated. If you want to continue to receive messages in Digest mode, you will have to subscribe to the Digest with a different address. (If you want to be subbed in both modes, but don't have an alternate e-mail address, I'll be happy to send you an invitation to Google mail. Just contact me off list.) - You can choose to drop the “-L” in the list email address when sending messages to the list. That means messages sent to ENG-LAN-FYLDE@rootsweb.com will be sent directly to the list. Sending a message to ENG-LAN-FYLDE-L@rootsweb.com <mailto:Eng-Manchester-L@rootsweb.com> will also continue to work. - You can unsubscribe from either List or Digest mode by sending your “unsubscribe” message to a single address: ENG-LAN-FYLDE-request@rootsweb.com. - You can use either ENG-LAN-FYLDE-L-request@rootsweb.com or ENG-LAN-FYLDE-request@rootsweb.com to subscribe to the regular List delivery. To subscribe to Digest, continue to send your “subscribe” email to ENG-LAN-FYLDE-D-request@rootsweb.com. - The “from” email within the expanded message headers will be different (no “-L”). This may result in some list messages being captured by your “junk” folder and you may need to edit any message filtering system you now use. - The biggest change is to the Digest -- the Digest layout, volume and issue numbers will change. The first digest you receive once the migration is complete will be in plain text. If you don't like the way the digest looks and want it to revert to something close to the old format, please contact me privately off list and I'll tweak a setting for you. Easy peasy. ;-) The Manchester list participated in beta testing of the new list management software and lived to tell about it. <g> If you're also a subscriber to that list, you know that the impact of the change was minimal. I don't know exactly when the list will be changed to the new system, but expect it to happen within the next 24 hours. Watch this space! With thanks and best wishes, Lynne
