    2. Here are the notable events for 1945: Labour Party Conference at Blackpool. The Socialists take the vital decision not to support a Coalition Government. Shortly afterwards electorate sweep them into power. V.E. Day.(8th may). Flags, buntings and rosettes everywhere. Thanksgiving services in Churches. Evacuees begin the trek home. Great potato shortage. 4.000 wait for Council houses. Food and coal are scarce and some Blackpool pubs close up when beer supplies run out. Blackpool is made into 2 Parliamentary Divisions. Death of Bert Feldman, impresario and music publisher. who ran the "White Blackbirds" Company on Central Pier and song parlours and other attractions in the town. In 1928 he purchased Bannister's Bazzar for something like £70.000 and turned it into 2 theatres, the first floor Feldman's Playhouse devoted to Repertory by the Fred D'Albert Players.
