Hello Everybody Here come the notable events from 1940:- Great Snow-up. Rail and road transport at a standstill, schools closed, funerals held up. Food and fuel supplies halted. Chaos for days. (27th January) Purchase tax introduced (23rd April) Civilians urged to carry gas masks. Blackpool's Citizen's Army begins recruiting. (20th June) Seed Street houses demolished by Nazi bombs. (12th September) 10 high explosive bombs and 30 incendiaries fall on St Annes. (October) Double deck standard tram, No, 50, en route to Fleetwood , blown over opposite the Grill Bar entrance of Hotel Metropole, just beyond the Princess Cinema, by a gale force gust of wind. Few passengers aboard at the time, injuries negligable. Badly damaged tram body later scrapped. Line cleared within 2 hours. 1941 coming up Jacqui
