    3. > I wonder if it might be worth contacting the Museum of Lancashire? > http://www.lancashire.gov.uk/education/museums/lancashire/index.asp Hello, I contacted the museum and the curator has asked me to e-mail the photo. Once I figure how to post a copy on to the internet, I'll let you all have a look. I have been told that the original (I only have a scan) says on the back: Rfm Edmundson No. 3323 A Co 5 KLR So can anyone tell me what this might mean. I have my own "translation" but I'd like confirmation from the list. Thanks, Stephen.

    3. Hello again, I found a medal record on the National Archives' web site for my Great(x2) Grandfather. The strange thing is he has two numbers next to his name. Why would he have two numbers? Now that I know his number(s) and regiment, etc. I am wondering whether I might be very lucky and find his records in the surviving 30% at Kew. Is there a way to find out in advance whether his records survive? I don't mind visiting the National Archives myself if they are there but it would be an expensive waste of time to go all that way and find that they were in the 70% lost to the fire. Thanks, Stephen.
