I've never used a blog before. I'll have to look into it. The picture is not in tip-top condition; as you would expect for its age. The cap badge looks like it might be a horse? Does that ring any bells with anyone? I looked at the WW1 medals at the National Archives. Just to clarify is it that all the medal records are complete and its only the soldiers full records that were destroyed by fire? I think I read there that any soldier that set foot abroad received a medal, so would it be that more or less everyone in WW1 got a medal and therefore a record exists of some sort? Presumably only those who never left UK shores did not receive a medal? I did find two people with the right name: one in the East Lancs and the other in South Lancs, though there were a few others scattered in other regiments. I wonder which is my Gt-Gt-grandfather? What information is on a medal record? Thanks, Stephen.
I wonder if it might be worth contacting the Museum of Lancashire? http://www.lancashire.gov.uk/education/museums/lancashire/index.asp Janet C >From: familytree@tinfoil.cotse.net >> > I do not know if there is a website to help identify regiments, but >>there > > are books that could help, I saw one that particularly mentioned cap >badges. > _________________________________________________________________ MSN Hotmail is evolving check out the new Windows Live Mail http://ideas.live.com
