Hello I am pleased to join in where possible. I reside in Northamptonshire and have made several visits to Preston Registry Office during the past 12 months. Like all of us I guess I need help particularly as I have started my family tree at the age of 71 and quickly realised that all knowledgeable relatives are dead! My family, the Nicksons, I find them at Cockerham in the late 1700's, in particular births, 1791 William, 1792 John, 1793 Peter (my Great Grandfather). About this time there were marriages to a Calvert and a Davis, both of Cockerham and to a Jenkinson of Poulton-le-Fylde. Two particular areas are now dominant in my searchings. (a) to confirm William is a brother of John & Peter (J & P are brothers) and to follow their ancestors back and to find William's descendants. Any and all guidance would be appreciated. (b) Both Peter and John were called Farmers in the 1841 census. 1851 John was called Grocer. 1861 John was called Ag. Labourer. Peter in 1851 was called Ag. Labourer and in 1861 was called Bailiff. Can anyone point me to areas of search that will reveal their ownership (unlikely), or tenancies as Farmers/Ag.Labourers/Bailiff. Finally commencing mid-1900's Nickson married Yates and the issue of Yates married Sim. Again recorded as Farmers and earlier as Ag. Labourer and Farmer of Yew Tree Farm, Salmesbury. Any connections? Any information, guidance greatly received. Regards Bill Nickson
