Hello Beth Here are the two email addresses, one for Lytham and the other one for St Annes. The other website is one I found by accident. You can find any of the Lancashire libraries on there. Very useful. lytham.library@lcl.lancscc.gov.uk st-annes.library@lcl.lancscc.gov.uk http://www.lancashire.gov.uk/libraries/search.asp I have not had time to search for the marriage on the GRO lists on Ancestry, so if you have searched there, it is difficult. I presume you have looked for other odd spellings for Sarah Alice. I have a similar problem to yours, I cannot find a second marriage for Esther or a death for the first husband. I am puzzled and am now wondering if in fact she married for the second time and the first husband was alive. Maybe she had left him or vice versa. I have 2 death certificates which proved to be incorrect. The books in the Register Office are their own books. There is one for each Church for marriages, so if you are searching for a marriage, you can see why they have problems when there are so many Church books to look through. Then there is the Register Office book which covers Register Office marriages and those that took place in other Churches which do not have a book of their own. Depends on the date, but maybe smaller denominations. A big complicated to explain fully. The Church Registers are the same as the copy of the Register that is kept at the Record Office. Do you think they could have married abroad, there are details of these marriages if you contact GRO office. I am not sure what you are looking for, I must be reading this incorrectly, can you help? You say you found Sarah Alice on the 1901 unmarried, so she married after this date to James Crowther. Who died in 1905, Sarah Alice or her husband James Crowther? Where did the death take place, any chance of looking in the local paper for an obituary? Another thing is a Directory entry for the years 1901 to 1905, probably the entry would be under the name of the husband, but the address may be a useful clue. Have you the religion of the couple? There may be something there re an entry in the paper of an event of some kind. Also the death cert, the address may be worth look at, re surrounding Church grave yards or Municipal grave yards etc. A lot of these have been recorded. Have you looked on the Manchester burial site. http://www.manchester.gov.uk/opservices/bereave/onlinerecords.htm You can browse for free. Just enter the surname and then click on search. I have just put in Crowther, but nothing showed up. Can you come up with anything else for us to help you in your search? Olive
