What a "Small World"! Even smaller, Rene. 250 Norbreck Road was where the headmaster of Norbreck School once lived, when I worked there. So 252 must be next door, which means it is the one next to the School. I wonder if they built both houses as the houses are semi detached. I presume you know this means, two houses adjoining. I do not live far away, if I could walk better, then I could walk there. I will have a ride round in the car and take a look. In the years that you mention such a lot of boarding houses were in operation, most of these are now turned into flats. Olive

This was at that time a block of flats. I checked all the Fleetwood streets but did not come across the name Beeby. I note that in an earlier email to the list you stated that you are trying to connect her to a Beeby in Norbreck Road,. this sounds to me like a Bispham address near Blackpool so maybe you need to extend your search to that area. Sorry I wasn't much help. regards Julie
Thank you Julie for responding and for the research into Barrett's Directory. I do appreciate it. The information about the address and the name came from the back of an old "tourist book" on FLEETWOOD, with a date of 1949. In trying to link the Mrs. Beeby, I thought the years would have been more like the late 30's or early 40's. If it was a block of flats in 1934, that is intriguing. I wonder if the building was sold and turned into a Hotel. Do you know of any Business Directory for later years that I could search? Thank you for trying. Rene I actually live on Norbreck Road, so is there any further information for this address. Would this be a boarding house or a private house? Blackpool Library may be able to help, but a lot of electoral rolls for the 1930`s were lost in the Town Hall fire. central.library@blackpool.gov.uk Olive
What a "Small World", Olive. My mother's brother and family (Jim and Clara STARR) built the house in 1932 at 252 Norbreck Road, Little Bispham, next to a school and lived their until the early 50's. Is that the same Norbreck Road where you live? Thank you for the website to the Library. I appreciate your help so much and shall contact them. The address at Bold Street would have been a Hotel/Boarding House in the 30's or 40's. I do not know what it is today. I did go on the website for Fleetwood and the historic pictures there were wonderful and showed BOLD STREET from the Mount Hotel and about 40 other pictures from the late 1800's and early 1900's. The homes appear to be 3 stories with the big bow windows I think they are attached to each other also. My Auntie Clara's mother was "Mrs. Beeby" and my cousins and I were trying to see if there was a connection to that building on Bold Street as there was "family talk" of a Boarding House. This list is fantastic the way everyone helps each other. Thank you again. Rene Bold Street is still there and so is the Mount Hotel. Try emailing Fleetwood Library, they have quite a good Family History Department. They may have electoral rolls etc. or may tell you where they are stored if still available. Have you any more information? Olive in Blackpool, just up the coast from Fleetwood.
Thank you Olive. No, I don't really have much information to go on except the address 113 Bold Street, Fleetwood and "Boarding House Proprietor" Mrs. Beeby. I was trying to connect her to the same Mrs. Beeby in my family who lived at Norbreck Road in the 30's and wondered if she owned the property. I will e mail the Library. Thank you for the suggestion. Dear Listers, In case this news hasn't drifted your way, RootsWeb has a new search engine that will search all the archived messages of all of the mailing lists at the same time. The new search engine is still in the beta stage, but seems to work beautifully. Boolean operators can be used, i.e., to search on multiple keywords or to eliminate words from the search, just precede the word with a plus or minus sign, etc. (See http://lucene.apache.org/java/docs/queryparsersyntax.html for more information on how the search function and software work.). Remember that unlike the browsable archives, messages are not immediately available to search, so if you're looking for something that was posted an hour ago, it probably won't turn up in your search results. You can try the new search engine out at http://archiver.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/search No moaning and groaning here, please. ;-) Any problems with the new search engine should be reported to the Help Desk <http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/form1.html> Enjoy! Best wishes, Lynne

Hello Barbara, Goodness knows where the Blackpool came from re the birth of Annie, there were 2 of them on the GRO, I think, for Fylde, which at that date covered Fleetwood. There is no Register Office in Thornton, so the name would not appear, but at one time Amounderness was quoted too. You need to ask at Blackpool Central Library re when the Blackpool Gazette began publishing. All the papers are held there on film. Is the date 1808? The only Church available was St Paul Marton, I have no details for anyone named Sanderson. The only other old burial grounds were St John, Bethesda and Holy Trinity in South Shore. These remains were all removed to Layton. Ring the Library and ask for Tony, tell him Olive sent you! Good luck Olive
Thank you all for your response to my query. Hi Olive, and yes, I did think about the old Fleetwood Barracks. Used to play as a child on the derelict site. My query was sparked by the report in the army BMD indices of the birth of Annie Sanderson b 1902, place of birth given as Blackpool. What made me think it wasn't the Fleetwood Barracks is that place of birth, I would have thought for anywhere in Fleetwood would have been given as Thornton or Fylde??? Could I ask for help with the following? I have a photo of a Sergeant Sanderson Military funeral winding through the streets of Blackpool in Jan 1808. Does any one have any idea which church cemeteries in Blackpool would have been available for this burial in 1808? It would give me some inkling as to which church records to look at. Also, When did the publishing of the Blackpool Evening Gazette commence? Any help, is as usual gratefully received. Regards to all. Barbara Whiteside.

Hi Phil and Jackie. I know there is some information on what exactly was at Squires Gate etc. so I will ask at the library and post this to the list. Some time in the future someone may need this and if the information goes under a proper heading it can then be searched in the archives later. I know once I looked at a book on this subject, so I will see what I can find to help out others. Olive
