Hi Olive - yes I thought that - quite nice though that it is now the library - where peeps go to research. Thatching - now there's an idea I hadn't thought of, and there are quite a few tatched roofs still out that way. In my job I used to have to go from Lancaster to Kirkham quite a lot and remember the thatches I passed. Thank you for the photo ofer anyway - it was very kind of you. It was something I hadn't thought of - I must remember, in my travels, to offer photos to people who need them. Many thanks - Jackie
And it's always worth trying the Geograph website for photos of anywhere in UK- http://www.geograph.org.uk Hope you're lucky! Hi Jackie If you Google "North Albert Street" Fleetwood (note the inverted commas around the name of the street) - and click on Images on the Google title screen, it brings up a few - whether any of them are of any use to you I'm not sure, but it's a trick you can use again for other locations too! Best wishes Janet C >From: Annaj464@aol.com >Reply-To: ENG-LAN-FYLDE-L@rootsweb.com >To: ENG-LAN-FYLDE-L@rootsweb.com >Subject: [FYLDE] Albert St Fleetwood >Date: Mon, 24 Jul 2006 03:24:07 EDT > >Hi listers - I am currently researching a family called REYNOLDS. Hi Jackie I forgot to mention that Shirleys Cycles on the picture would be where the library is now so the Reynolds shop would have been near there. I dont know when the picture was taken but if anyone can remember when the Library was built it must have been just before that. Jacqui Kilcoyne
Hi Olive In 1901 I have the family at 20 N Albert Street. In 1881 and 1891 they are at - 36 London Street. Thornton. Back in 1871 they are at 'Melbourne' Gt Ecclestoon when Thomas Reynolds is a rush merchant. I don't remember lots of rushes around Gt Eccleston! Sorry no connection that I know of with Cumpsty of Gt Eccleston. I know that Thmas's wife Christina Calder lived with her parents at 42 Warren Street, Thornton (1851). Her father was a ship wright and came from Scotland. I was looking for my husband's mother's family in S Wales whe we managed to find living cousins. They are descended directly from the Reynolds. Many thanks for answering, I really appreciate the trouble you are taking - Jackie Hi Jackie I will have a drive up to Fleetwood some time and take a look, do you have a street number? I have still to do some photographs for others on the list, but this heat wave has kept me indoors. I am hoping that during the school holidays I can "ask" my daughter to drive around and help with the pictures, in case I cannot park directly where the houses are. I am not very good at walking at the moment. For instance, if there are yellow lines or parked cars where I need to be I would be stuck. Do you have any connection with the name Cumsty in Gt Eccleston? Olive
Hi Jacqui - that is so good of you to take the time to help. I grew up near Lancaster, but have no recollection of Fleetwood at all (except catching the Isle of Man boat). The Reynolds are a branch of my husband's family who started at Gt Eccleston and then moved and went into business in Fleetwood. One of the reynolds sons married a girl from Swansea and most of the others seemed to have left Fleetwood and moved to Glamorgan by about 1920, so i don't know if the shop existed longer than that. Many thanks Jackie
Hi I have sent a pic of North Albert Street off line. Its not very good but its the only one I have got. I have some pics of shops, I will have a look if I can find Reynolds. Regards Jacqui Kilcoyne
Hi Janet - thank you for the excellent tip - I didn't know that one! I'll have a browse this evening through the 10 or more pages it sent up! Many thanks - Jackie
Hi listers - I am currently researching a family called REYNOLDS. In 1901 Thomas was a Provisions Merchant at 20 North Albert Street, Fleetwood. I wondered if anyone had any old photos of N Albert Street, or knew where I could find one - Jackie

Henry What a dope I am, I should have said that he knows me. No, I did not get the pictures, so that would be nice. It is on again this year, in fact I usually send details to the list and am not if I have done so, need to check on this. It is amazing how many people come. We have a lot of young teenagers who come to look for their grannie`s grave etc. They usually come back to tell us that they have found it, provided there is a stone, of course. I will get in touch with the Library and see what they can tell me. Incidentally did I ever send you the pictures from last years Layton Cemetery Open Day? I meant to - let me know if you didn't get them and I will email them to you. Cheers Henry
Henry, I have a copy of a book - 100 Years of Football at Fleetwood and there are a lot of pictures of various teams. Not sure if one could be yours. What was his name? Carol
Hi Henry Email Blackpool Central Library, ask for Tony and say Olive sent you. No, it is not a secret code! Just that he knows he etc. There certainly is more information there, just ask and I am sure he will help you. Olive

Hope this is of some use to someone. Hello there, Olive! I was interested in the above because my father, whose family had moved to Blackpool sometime in the second decade of the 20C, joined the RAMC. He would have been 18 in 1915, so presumably enlisted around that time. If the family were living in Blackpool by then, he may well have been at the Squire's Gate base. So I wondered if you knew if the Library held any records pertaining to the base. It sounds as though the base was a training camp for the RAMC, do you know if this is the case? I know that my father was posted to Egypt during that war, but don't know from where or to which regiment there. It may have been from Squire's Gate, I suppose if he had trained there. I also know that he was back in Blackpool at the latest by 1921, and almost certainly earlier, because he was playing football in the Fleetwood Division of the Fylde League (FDFL 1st Divn.) and his team were runners-up in the 1st Division in the 1921-22 season (He received a medal for that!). Incidentally, I don't know anything about this League, what teams were in it and which team he would have been playing for in 1921/22. If you or anyone one on the list can enlighten me please get in touch. Cheers Henry

On Tuesday at 7.00 there is to be a public meeting re the above. If you have relatives buried there and are concerned about the state of the cemetery and its future maybe you could consider attending the meeting or contacting the organisers to add your support. The grass is overgrown and there has been, over the past few years, quite a number of articles regarding this. The meeting is to consider also setting up a group similar to the Friends of Layton Cemetery. The LFH&HS Fylde branch are in process of reading the gravestones, but it is difficult because of the state of the grass, which at the moment is quite high. Anyone interested could telephone Pat Dimuantes 01253 694229 or Beryl Radcliffe 01253 798312. Or you could email me and I will pass all messages on to Pat or Beryl. The meeting is to held at the Marton Institute, Oxford Square, Marton, Blackpool. Olive
