Dear Listers, Many thanks to all of you for making this such a nice list. Whether your messages have been filled with information or with questions, your participation is valued by us all. Special thanks go to those of you who share data and provide answers to subscriber queries. To the experts on this list -- your gifts of time and expertise are most welcome and gratefully accepted. In the coming year, may you all break down many brick walls and may you and your families enjoy peace, good health, happiness, and prosperity. No matter what holiday you celebrate, I hope this year's is the best ever! Warm regards, Lynne
Dear Listers, As it states in the Welcome Message, RootsWeb's mail servers cannot and will not process list messages unless they are in plain text. Too much of my time is spent returning bounced messages to subscribers who have attempted to send HTML messages to the list. I'd much rather spend that time doing research, alerting you to interesting sites and events, wrapping gifts, or doing just about anything else. As of today, I will not be forwarding HTML bounce notices back to subscribers to ask them to reformat their messages in plain text. If you send a message to the list and it doesn't appear in the list's archives, it will be up to you to check to make sure that you've sent it in plain text. If you don't know how to set your e-mail up to send plain text messages, the instructions at http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/listadmins/plaintext.html may be helpful. As always, if you have questions or comments about this message or any other administrative matter, please write to me privately off list and I'll do my best to assist you. Best wishes, Lynne

Dear Listers, Around this time of year, many of us are thinking about gifts, both to give and to get. Can you suggest any gifts for those genealogists on our lists? Perhaps you have something on your wish list that other family historians also might want or find useful. Or perhaps you have a special Blackpool genealogy wish that another list member may be able to fulfil. Let us know! Please don't respond to this message. Instead, create a new message with your wish or gift ideas. Although the promotion of commercial entities or mentioning amounts of money is prohibited, the promotion of family history socities is not only allowed, it is encouraged. :-) I look forward to reading your posts! Best wishes, Lynne

Hello, I've posted before about the difficulties finding my gt. grandfather. He was about to marry my gt. grandmother when her first husband came back from the dead (he hadn't been killed after all; he had been taken as a POW), so my gt. grandfather left and was never heard from again. A couple of photographs have been found showing my gt. grandfather in a uniform, so perhaps he fought in WW1 also? The problem is, I don't know which of the services he would have been in, nor the regiment. I've never looked at military records before. Where would I begin, and am I able to get anywhere knowing so little information? Thanks, Stephen.

Bernie LRO do have the 1901 on fiche. When they came out the Record Office obtained a set, but it was a while before they were circulated as they had to process all the indexes. These are street indexes, not name indexes. Olive
