I was very glad to read of the preservation of the Barton on Irwell Wesleyan Methodist Society burial records which record my Eccles family ancestry from 1831-59. John and Alice Eccles had Samuel born at Eccles in July 1834 who moved to Liverpool about 1853 and remained there. The family burial plot is number 34. Is there any chance that anything remains after 150 years? If it will soon be under asphalt, now must be the time to get the DNA out, correct?
Hi Larry, In the Barton Wesleyan burial ground there are three burial plots with the number 34. Over the last four months a lot of effort has gone into trying to sort out who is buried where. The front graveyard plot number 34 is where your ancestors are buried and the plot has been grassed over. From a list of inscriptions it seems that there is no gravestone, or the gravestone was covered and not recorded. From the developers plans as I remember the front burial ground is to remain grassed over, but there will be a footpath for access to the flats. Hope this is helpful, Roger Hart, Little Lever, Bolton, UK.
