    3. Hi Christine I have been in touch with the church secretary of Patricroft United Reformed Church, formerly Patricroft Congregtional Church. There is no graveyard - burials or cremations were at a municipal cemeteries. She is unsure just what records they have but will find out for us ( I think I have some family connections there too) if you can give more details. Can you reply with likely names and the dates for which you are interested. If there are records of the right period I could visit the church to look things up for you as long as there isn't too much to do. Margaret Southern

    3. Could have been Peel Green Cemetery Carolyn or St. Catherine's Church in Barton. Those are the two which spring to mind, there is also Monton Church which has a grave yard. I will check more thoroughly for you when I get home this evening. 1. [ECCLES] Barton Wesleyan Film
    2. I'm looking for the death for Thomas Blackburn. He died ca. 1851-1858, born 1795-1801 (depending on who you talk to---) His first wife was Alice Bradburn who died in 1834, and his second wife was likely Mary Elliot. I believe some of my Blackburns were married in Barton Wesleyan Chapel, so maybe Thomas is buried there. Only look for him if you have an index, I know you're so busy looking for others' requests. The Eccles Blackburn line is mine---likely all those in Eccles with the surname are my relatives somehow. Any Blackburns there are probably my relation somehow-- Bradley

    3. I have now had another chance to look at the LDS film 1786241 that contains inscriptions for Barton Chapel as well as several other churches in the area. I have found that the inscriptions given for Barton are in alphabetical order, in contrast to the church that I was particularly interested in, and so I am willing to have a look for names that any Listers may be searching for. It would take me a week or so to respond to any requests. As an example, I give a copy of an inscription for Thomas LUNN (weaver, Patricroft) 28 Dec 1859 aged 76 (died of a severe burn) wife Betty 26 Feb 1855 No. 152 Regards, Mike

When this arrives, I would be only too happy to do look ups for anyone. The film could take either a couple of weeks to arrive or about a month, depending on where it has to come from, either Sydney or Salt Lake City. If anyone would like to start sending me Surnames to look for, I will make a list ready for when the film arrives. 3. Hi All >My deputy and I have this strange 'hobby' of collecting the Family >Announcements pages from modern day Newspapers As Carol has said this is a strange hobby.... I blame Carol completely<VBG>! >The point is that they will be a very useful index for the future..... I agree, The Indexes will be very valuable in the years to come. The information contained within an Obituary, In Memoriam or Remembrance can be a further clue of the next stage of research. An example: I have an In Memoriam that appeared in my local paper in 1999. The In Memoriam pertained to a death in 1949 regarding a member of the Armed Forces. OK, the military record is closed, but the death certificate should be avaliable and if an In Memoriam is being placed in the paper after 50 years then the chances are there was an Obituary placed in the paper in 1949, which will give further details. >......Not much of the paper left by the time we have finished with it. The Recycling chap feels very hard done by! >Yes we know we are mad and that it will not be of much use in our life time >but don't you just wish somebody had done this in the 1800's. Mad, Well, maybe just a little bit!! Once thing though, and I am sure Carol will agree, I am creating an Index for future generations, we might not have an index of papers of the past, but we can certainly leave one for the future. What a wonderful legacy for future generations.
