Dear Val, I hope i am sending this attempt of getting my own personal advert listed, to the right email address, I am researching anybody with the surname of either MCGOWEN or MCGOWAN in the Bolton area since 1874. My gt-grandfather (George McGowan) was born in Manchester in 1848 and is listed on the 1851 census, he walked it to Westhoughton,worked as a miner, and lived as lodger with a family called Kearsley. He got married to a woman from the Daubhill area named Harriet CROMPTON and all his children were born and raised around that area. He died in 1896 and lived at No.55 Rosamond Street, Daubhill. As the children grew up they married into these local families, of which i would love to email with anytime in the near future. Sarah Ann MCGOWEN married Alfred JONES, also from Rosamond Street James MCGOWEN married Catherine HOWCROFT(emmigrated to Canada, then Australia) Jonathon Crompton MCGOWEN married Catherine BOOTH, Sapling Road Ralph MCGOWEN married Mary Jane ORMROD, also from Rosamond Street, (emmigrated to Canada, then Australia) George MCGOWEN married Mary HOSKER (formerly BROOKS) of the Deane area and Blackledge Street, then Shurmer Street. Margaret MCGOWEN, (55 Rosamond Street) never married. Hannah MCGOWEN, died after 3 months. Thomas Alfred MCGOWEN, never married, (emmigrated to Canada then Australia.) Hi Jeffery, I have Booth's from Lancashire, mostly Bolton Le Moor and Harwood Lee, we really don't know anything about the English branch though and are just beginning to research across the water. I don't know if your Catherine Booth is related or not, I would need to know her ancestry. Our Booth's immigrated to America in the early 1840's but many stayed in Lancashire. If anyone recognizes any names or spelling errors please correct me as my knowledge of the area is nil.
