    3. Hello Valerie Thank you for your email and for consulting the IGI. I know little more about Sarah. On the 1871 census Sarah is 42 years of age and has five children, born between about 1849 and 1869. The children were Betsy (1849) and Richard Ainsworth Mayo (1851) - both born in Bury - James (1853), Edward (1866) and Ellen (1869) - all born in Rochdale. All the children have Sarah's maiden name, Mayo, although on the 1871 census her husband is Edward Burry, Ireland, bn c 1836. Sarah disappears from record after 1871. On the 1881 census records the youngest daughter Ellen is a boarder with her sister Betsy's family. I've made a guess that Sarah lived from c 1829 until c 1875. I've not found a marraige certifcate or death certifcate for Sarah. I found Richard Mayo, her second child and my ggrandfather, baptised in Bury in 1851, on the IGI and learnt that Richard Mayo's father was Richard Ainsworth, a hatter from Bury. I have Richard Mayo's birth certificate from 1851, where Sarah is living on Bury New Road (which - according to Google earth - is quite some distance from Bury and closer to Bolton). James, her second son, was born at Swan's Place, Rochdale in 1853. (no father). Sarah signed with a cross. I mention race because of a family story that someone of (I think) Sarah's generation, or perhaps Sarah's mother, was described as 'mulatto', brought back to Lancashire from a war abroad to live as a wife, alongside an existing wife. I've no reason not to believe this story. Is Turton Bolton, as far as certificates are concerned? I have another ggrandfather from Turton (unrelated to Sarah) but his birthplace is always stated as Turton, not Bolton. Thank you again. I'm grateful for any suggestions. 3. Hello Andrew, As Valerie as mentioned, there are a few Sarah Mayohs born about the same time in Turton. I have found a Sarah Mayoh christened in 1830 and her parents were Robert Mayoh and Ann Ainsworth. I wonder if this is where her son Richard got his Ainsworth name from? I will check this family on the 1841 Census when Ancestry lets me look at the images. I am having a problem with it at the moment. My husband has a Betty Mayoh born about 1778 in Turton who married Robert Burrows. Anne in Bolton. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Andrew Lord" <andrew_lord@mac.com> To: <ENG-LAN-BOLTON-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, June 06, 2006 1:49 PM Subject: Re: [ENG-LAN-BOLTON] Sarah Mayoh of Bolton > Hello Valerie > > Thank you for your email and for consulting the IGI. > > I know little more about Sarah.
