    3. Martin, Thank you so much for that. Of course I am interested ! I had no idea there were Census that early. Now I'm trying to work them all out. Were they only Census with Heads of Families? I'm interested in 'all' GARTSIDE/GARTHSIDE/GARSIDE et al spellings in and around Bolton - Great and Little Bolton, Edgeworth, Longworth, Turton, etc. The reason is that I am trying so hard to find from where James GARTSIDE and Jane ISHERWOOD, m.30 March, 1730 St Peter's, BLM came. I am totally brickwalled and have been for years. The researcher who found out this information wrote that James GARTSIDE was from Turton, Weaver and that Jane ISHERWOOD was from Quarlton. The children and grandchildren definitely were at Turton and Quarlton, but there is absolutely no clue as to where James GARTSIDE was born or attended church. Records at Turton are missing for the very years I need them ! (1720 - 1777). (St Anne's, Turton which used to be St Bartholomew's pre 1700). Valerie, dear soul has said that she will try to look up the records at the Bolton Archives when they reopen. However, when I try to look up James GARTSIDE's birth, nothing seems 'obvious'. Even if the researcher who 'did' my tree found the marriage of James and Jane, I have no idea whether any record of that date (viz. 1730, 30 March) would show who their parents were. Jane 'may' have been the daughter of Christopher ISHERWOOD and Elizabeth bapt 1709. James is an utter mystery. If he were from Turton, nothing likely is indicated on the IGI Extracted Entries. How would he be from Turton when there are no GARTSIDEs there? Sorry this is all confusing and pretty dumb, I know, but I live in Australia and do not have the resources at present to find out more. I much appreciate your interest and help. Cheers, Carolyn.
