Hi Rachel, The records you refer to are known as the Court Records of Turton, and record the meetings held at Turton Tower. Before a proper police force was created Borough Reeves were responsible for keeping law and order. All manner of things were dealt with, from petty crime to the maintenance of the highway in and around Turton, with fines being imposed for any misdemeanors, lack of maintenance, etc. Bolton Archives hold these records dating from 1737-1850.
