    3. Hi Carolyn, I have James with his wife and daughter on the 1871 census as follows: 71 Weston Street, Great Lever James Smith, 24, Clogger empl. 1 man, born Bolton Eliza, wife, born Bolton Mary G Smith, daur, 2 months, born Bolton Weston Street is in the parish of Holy Trinity, so it is possible that this was the church where James and Eliza married. However, you do not say what religion they were. If Catholic, then it could possibly have been Pilkington Chapel. Another possible church could have been St. Mark's. Re the Flander's Arms, I think this should be the Founder's Arms, 18 St. George's Street, in what was then Little Bolton. I have a picture of this taken in the 1920's, which I will scan to you. It is quite possible that this pub is still there. Valerie
