    3. Hi Rachel, Try www.old-maps.co.uk click on Co-ordinate and use 370500,416512 in the top rh corner of this map you will find “shore” you will also see Kenyons & Moss houses the next two places on the 1841 census. The James Walch at Kenyons was my GGGG Grandfather, I believe his wife was a Margaret Holt! With regards to Globe Cottages I would think that these are on what is now Bedford St,looking at the 1851 census as the next property after the Globe is on Blackburn Rd. My Grandmother retired to one of these in that late 1960`s and they are not very big at all. One room and a small kitchen down stairs and two rooms upstairs and they still had an outside toilet, not a very big home for a family of 8!!! I don’t think that your Shore Farm is still there but I could be wrong. I understand that the family lived at Shore Farm in Turton and wondered if it is still there today or whether it has been demolished. I also have a Benjamin HOLT b. 1820ish at Shore Farm, Turton who married Ellen Whowell who was b.in Egerton. Benjamin was a Quarryman according to his marriage certificate in 1840 which was confirmed by the 1841 Census where it states he worked in a Stone Quarry - does anyone know where that quarry would have been. He and his family were living at Globe Cottages which I understand was next door to the Globe Inn (assumption as this is the next house on the census). He was still working there 10 years later on the 1851 census. By this stage he had 6 children - how big would the cottage have been? Does anyone know if these cottages still exist?
