    3. Hi Martin, The church school question is also a bit confusing. I'll be interested to hear the correct answer to this question myself. The original school just down the road from St Peter's Halliwell on Church Rd, Bolton was the Jubilee School. I don't know when this school was built or opened, or which Jubilee is implied by its name. The building is now used as a church hall, offices, etc. by St Peter's. Church Rd C of E Primary School is immediately behind the Jubilee School building, round the corner on Captain's Clough Rd. St Peter's Primary School, associated with St Peter's, Halliwell, is on Limefield Rd, Smithills Deane Rd, Bolton, approximately a mile away. This is a modern building. I don't know if there was an earlier one. Is there any indication which of these the 1810 date refers to? 3. I am not sure when Jubilee School was built. But the St Peters school on Limefield Rd was opened in 1973, and is in no way associated with either Church Rd school or Jubilee school. The school on Limefield Rd replaced the older church school on Colliers Row Rd. The building is still there, though was converted to a private residence when it closed as a school. I forget when that was built, though it does have a date stone above the door, but I am away from home on business so can't consult my photographs to tell you the date. The old school can be seen on Colliers Row directly opposite Longshaw Fold Rd:- http://www.streetmap.co.uk/newmap.srf?x=368360&y=412490&z=4 Regards, Paul Dixon Carrollton, Teaxs --- Bob Thornley <bob@thornleysystems.co.uk> wrote: > Hi Martin, > The church school question is also a bit confusing. 3. Hi Paul, I'm prepared to be wrong about this, but my understanding is that St Peter's C of E Primary School on Limefield Rd is indeed the primary school associated with St Peter's Church, Halliwell, on Church Rd, Smithills. The Jubilee School on the corner of Church Rd and Captain's Clough Rd is now the Parish Centre (containing the Parish Office) of St Peter's, Halliwell. The relationship between St Peter's and Church Rd C of E school is something of a mystery (in spite of the fact that my children went there in the late 1970s). The Church of England schools have an 'aided' rather than a 'controlled' status, so I suspect that this is in any case a bit of a grey area. However, I profess no specialist knowledge at all on this subject, and you may well know more about it than I do. Further clarification would be helpful and interesting. Following its conversion to a private residence, the old school house on Colliers Row was occupied for a time by the then organist of St Peter's, Halliwell, who later became the vicar of St Paul's Church, Halliwell.
