Thanks to Bob for the extra info on the Higsons. As it happens I am descended from a line of Deane parish Higsons who migrated downhill to the warmer climes of Atherton, but that was not my reason for searching the births of these people. They were all victims of the Pretoria Disaster and I have been gathering info for a project with Pam Clarke and the Westhoughton Local History Soc. So Cassie, to answer your question, I have no personal family interest in the Ball family other than that Job died down Pretoria too. I note that Job Ball's parents (James Ball & Hannah Higson) married in Bolton district in 1854, but maybe James came into the area from further to the SW. Regards Peter Wood
