A few weeks ago I spent a bit of time searching the Dictionary of National Biography for people with Bolton connections. There was some very interesting information there and I did think of posting a list here but it was too long, I get online access to the DNB through Highland Libraries. I just noticed this morning that it can now be accessed through Bedfordshire Libraries. Anyone can get online membership so I would recommend it highly as there is a wide range of reference material there - I have found at least one of my family in the DNB.
