Hi Pete, I have just got back from the library. I decided to check Bolton Parish Registers for 1830 and 1831 for James Hulme. He was not there, apart from the James born to Anne Hulme in 1830. I think this looks the likely one, unless your James was not baptised. The only problem is that he was born in Great Bolton. Anne in Bolton.
