    2. Hello List People I'm new to the list. My interest is in the surname FIDLER. I have a marriage For Valentine Fidler in 1790 at St. Peter's, Bolton, but I know he was not christened there. He was born in 1769, and according to his death record, possibly in Greater Bolton. I understand this to be an outlying village of Bolton although why it would be called greater, I'm blessed if I know. Can anyone help me with a likely Church for his christening? 3. Hi Brian, Just for the record, you've been slightly misinformed about Greater Bolton, which is actually the modern area covering all of Bolton and the surrounding villages and townships. You probably have in mind Great Bolton (Gt Bolton) which was not in fact an outlying village but rather the central area including the town centre and the Parish Church of St Peter. Little Bolton, as a matter of interest, comprised three non-contiguous areas. There is some possibly helpful information at http://www.manchester2002-uk.com/towns/bolton1.html The largest parish in the area was Deane so possibly the next check would be on the records of the Parish Church of St Mary's, Deane. There's some general information at http://www.lan-opc.org.uk/Deane/home.html The records are available in Bolton Archives and at Manchester Central Library.
