Just a thought, does anyone know why there was so much migration specifically from Dent at this time? My ancestor Joseph Middleton made the move and I've always assumed that it was just one of those things, especially as he was a coachman and so relatively mobile. He did however go back and marry Nancy Stackhouse from Thornton in Lonsdale and bring her back to Bolton (Turton) From what I can gather Dent isn't that big a place and we now have at least three (apparently unconnected) people or families making the Dent to Bolton move. I know Bolton was growing massively at this time with industrialisation, but it seems a big coincidence to have so many people moving from Dent, which is hardly next door. Does anyone know if there's a connection I'm missing? Hi Pete, When I met Margaret in Bolton Archives recently, a man overheard us talking about Dent. He said that a lot of people came to Bolton from Dent because of the Quaker connection. I think my husband's ancestor Robert Burrow(s) may have come to Bolton from Dent, but as far as I know they were not Quakers.
