Hi, JUst read that you are connected some way to Holden. My g.g.grandfather married a Sarah Holden born 1838, to Richard and Amelia . Amelia was his second wife and she was a widow, previously married to a George Pope, having a child called George Pope from her marriage. Hi Margaret, Thanks for your equiry. My paternal line of Holden was only in Bolton from around 1885, and previously in Pendleton from around 1875. Thomas originated in Abbeytown, Cumberland, near Hadrians Wall, and the border with Scotland. I have a long line ot Thomas Holden's, my gg.grandfather was born 1805 in Holme Abbey, Abbeytown. G.grandfather Thomas Holden b.1837 Holme Abbey, he married 1865 to Margaret Southwell in Maryport, but Margaret died and he moved down to Pendleton where in 1875 he married Rosannah (nee Joyce last Smith), and they had 4 children (Rosannah, Elizabeth, Alice, & Thomas) before moving to Bolton around 1885. Thomas had at least one younger brother Joseph b.1854 who moved down to Salford and appeared on 1881 census there. I do not know of any of the family being in Lancashire in the earlier years.
