Hi Jan, You'll find a definition of Bolton-le-Moors at http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/LAN/Bolton/ You should normally think of it as an archaic name for what we would now simply refer to as Bolton. Gt Bolton was a township within Bolton-le-Moors. The first census to provide comprehensive coverage was the 1841 census. The 1841 census did not give the relationships of house occupants, it rounded the ages of over-15s to the nearest 5 years below, and it only indicated whether individuals were or were not born in the county. Censuses were taken every 10 years and from 1851 they have provided additional information including theoretically exact ages, relationship to the head of the household and parish of birth.
