Dear Listers, Last weekend I discovered some ancestors were sent to prison in the 1860s (during the Lancashire Cotton Famine). The reference came from a Fishpool Workhouse admissions record for their youngest children - "Reason for Poor Relief - Parents in prison". Having asked at Bolton Library - rather wide-eyed on just discovering my great great grandparents were convicts! - I was kindly pointed in the direction of the "Post Trial Calendar" and "Indictment" records. As they are archived and it was a Saturday I was unable to examine them, but look forward to ordering them for the next time I am up in Bolton. I managed a quick look at the Bolton Chronicle around the dates of the Fishpool Admissions (July to August 1862) but couldn't find any report of a court case involving my grt grt grandparents. The point of my posting is to ask if any listers have experience of researching court or prison records in Bolton and, if so, any tips on the most efficient and effective ways of researching this kind of information. Any advice would be very welcome. Paul Barrow St Albans England -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Free Edition.
