    3. Hi Gavin, I have checked the deaths for William Champkin for the years 1882-86 but haven't found him, either on FreeBMD or the GRO index. Interestingly, almost without exception, the Champkin's I did find came from Luton, Bedfordshire. Did he ever live in Bolton? Where was the family in 1881 (they were at St Albans Hertfordshire in the 1871): George 22, Walter 20, Philip 18, Robert 17, Sarah 13 and William Jnr 1891. Champkin gets a variety of spellings (most often Champion as through my spell checker every time!) but also Chemkin, Camkin, Chaplain, Chaplin and more. I would very much like to track down William Snr b c1837, and the family - 1871-1882, and especially William Jnr as late as 1891; and the various members of each generation in the years following. Gavin Yates, in Christchurch New Zealand.
