Greetingsto All, I am a new subscriber. Well, an old suscriber re-subscribing. I had to cease a few years ago because of ill-health. Now I'm back to my 'old searches'. I know I need some advice/help. Just today I have refound my Dad's tree of the above surname. I'm hoping there is someone new in the last couple of years researching the same name. As far back as I can go is 1730. On 30 March, James GARTHSIDE m. Jane ISHERWOOD at St Peter's, Bolton Le Moors. James was a weaver at Turton and Jane was from Quarlton. Could sks please explain how far Quarlton and Turton were from the Church at Bolton where they were married. The only 2 children I can find for them are a Betty who m. Arthur KAY of Turton at St Peter's Bolton and a John of Quarlton, Farmer who was also m. at St Peter's and died 1793 and was buried at St Anne's Turton. He left a will which was proved at Chester. (Was that the usual place for wills to be "proved")? Where could I possibly go to find his parents ? Are there records of Turton and Quarlton that early ? I shall hope to hear from someone ! Kind regards, Carolyn. Australia. P.S. In Scotland they had naming patterns: did England have anything similar?
