    1. Correction to "My elusive paternal grandmother"

    3. Oops, Sorry folks, Corrections to my last 2 paras which should have read:- "I can see a HANNAH WADDICAR born in Bolton (1866 - Q2 - 8c/293) but I can't confirm that this is her - all of my grandparents had died before I was born and now, alas, so have all of their children. I know that she is none of the following 1885 births:- MARY HANNAH WADDICAR born in Bolton (Q2 - 8c/377) MARY WADDICAR born in Bolton (Q3 - 8c/276) , who is a Mary Hannah MARY HANNAH WADDICAR born in Blackburn (Q1 - 8e/372) nor either of the MARY H WADDICORs born in Darwen in 1865." I'm pretty sure that the lady in question can't be the MARY HANNAH WADDICAR who appears in the 1881 census entry RG11/3839/60/30 living at 27 Rose Hill, Great Bolton with family head Ralph Waddicar. She is the 1885 - Q2 - 8c/377 birth entry referred to above and married Joseph Roberts in Bolton in 1884 (Q2 - 8c/404?) and was still living with him in 1891 at the time that my grandmother was living with my grandfather - RG12/3119/3/50a/33. I've corresponded with Amy Blocher who runs the Geocities US Waddicor/Waddicar Family Homepage and she can't help. I'd like to thank Jane Varol and Bob Winder for their help so far. I suppose I could apply for a copy of her marriage certificate to ascertain her father's name and occupation (1889 - Q3 - 8c/385), otherwise I seem to be up the creek without a paddle. Thanks. Allan Halstead.

You're still referring to 1885 births in this last paragraph - until you sort this out you'll be struggling. > I'm pretty sure that the lady in question can't be the MARY HANNAH > WADDICAR who appears in the 1881 census entry RG11/3839/60/30 living > at 27 Rose Hill, Great Bolton with family head Ralph Waddicar. She is > the 1885 - Q2 - 8c/377 birth entry referred to above How have you ruled out the 1865 Q2 8c 377 birth and hence the 1881 census information ? > and married Joseph Roberts in Bolton in 1884 (Q2 - 8c/404?) and was > still living with him in 1891 at the time that my grandmother was > living with my grandfather - RG12/3119/3/50a/33. How do you know that the Mary Waddicar (1865 Q2 8c 377) married Joseph Roberts ? Do you have that certificate and the 1865 birth certificate to (possibly) tie it up ? > I suppose I could apply for a copy of her marriage certificate to > ascertain her father's name and occupation (1889 - Q3 - 8c/385), > otherwise I seem to be up the creek without a paddle. Basic rule of the game - without it you tend to be guessing. It should also give her age at marriage which is another guideline. Cheers, Bob Winder
