Valerie I think that would vary from hospital to hospital. In Sydney the uniform changed dramatically after WW1 as the then Matron served o'seas with the Army Nurses and changed the uniform to a more 'modern' militaristic style presumably when she returned, as you know women's fashions changed considerably then. In general Australian styles tend to trail English ones, but I'd place this photo c1885-1910. Have you any idea which hospital or area this lady worked in? there would probably be local hospital museums with photos you could compare.
