Hi Anne & Lynne, I have been reading your very interesting stories about Chequerbent. I too, went to Chequerbent Mission Church which was built in 1888 and closed January 1970, to be demolished to make way for the M61 motorway Junction 5 slip road & roundabout. The infant school building is still standing, just opposite the roundabout. I started there at 5 in 1950 then went 'across the road' to the big school until I was 11.
