    3. Hi Joan Yes this still a very rural area even though it is only a few miles from Bury town centre.. I have compared our local maps against census entry's on the 1841 census JAMES (1847) was living with his father JAMES(1809) in a hamlet called Gorsey Clough the next entry was for SHEEP HILL GATE on the local maps there is a farm called Sheep Gate Farm it to the southeast of Gorsey fold . Gorsey fold is still there but it is a nursing home the houses are gone.
