    1. [ENG-LAN-BOLTON] For Joan & Meg re. Joanna BRIERLEY
    2. Elizabeth Wilde
    3. Dear Meg & Joan, Thank you for your messages. I have subscriptions to Find my Past, Ancestry & sundry other Family History Societies & sites. Am trying to avoid joining another (Lancashire) as husband has threatened divorce if I do & if I buy the 1851 Lancashire census just to find one person, the elusive Joanna Brierley. I spent a frustrating half hour on Find my Past trying to find Joe Hannah Brierley in 1861. Eventually had the sense to use the address provided by Joan & the Household Schedule number. Eventually found them & looked at the census image. The surname, which I could read easily as Brierley, had been mistranscribed by Find my Past as BRISLEY, which is why I couldn't find them at first. I find that site as frustrating as Ancestry! Have since spent 2 hours going through the 1851 census on Ancestry.com (the only site that seems to have the 1851 census) & given up after searching over 2500 Brierleys & Brearleys. If Joanna was Johan Brierley in 1841, Joe Hannah Brisley in 1861 & Juliana Brearley (perhaps) at her death, Heaven only knows what she was entered as in 1851. I agree that it's possible the younger children Hannah & William, 4 & 1 respectively in 1841 might be grandchildren, but women who had been breeding with monotonous regularity throughout their marriages often gave birth during their mid forties. Sadly, 1841 does not include family relationships and I can't find Joanna in 1851. Hopefully, William's birth certificate will give me her maiden name, but until it arrives, I am stuck again. Thank you again, both of you, Liz Coreglia Antelminelli
