    1. Re: [ENG-LAN-BOLTON] ENG-LAN-BOLTON Digest, Vol 3, Issue 117
    2. Martin Cannot find him anywhere in 1841 - sorry However, his dau may have been born out of wedlock or by an earlier wife - Elizabeth Briscoe chr 21st April 1839: St Peters, Bolton Le Moors, Lancashire, dau of Stock Briscoe & Jane [Whitelaw]. However, Elizabeth may have been registered in the church but there is no official register for her between June 1839 and Dec 1840; in fact the nearest is Liverpool June Qtr 1844. This may or may not indicate that she was born by another women, wife or not! Tony Hope it helps In a message dated 6/5/2008 8:05:51 A.M. I can't find this one in 1841, someone might like a go at finding him. Stock Wood BRISCOE (sometimes written Stockwood BRISCOE) Born 1817 Bolton Married Jane WHITELAW 1844 Bolton. She was born Scotland ABT 1822 He was the son of Robert BRISCOE and Elizabeth WOOD. Robert died before 1841 but Elizabeth was in Green Street, Little Bolton in 1841 Stock Wood BRISCOE was a weaver Odd thing is that in 1841 there was a Granddaughter Elizabeth BRISCOE living with his mother, she was Age 2. In 1851 he was living at 24 Green Street and had a daughter Elizabeth BRISCOE Age 11, presumably the same person but he married in 1844 and was a bachelor when married.

    3. Thanks, I had only see the christening in the IGI where it just has the mother as Jane BRISCOE. In 1851, Jane's father James WHITELAW was in Bolton but can't see him either in 1841. I suppose it is possible that they had gone to Scotland though they do not seem to have been very well off - four of their children died as infants and the other two only reached 18 before dying.
