    1. [ENG-LAN-BOLTON] The Iron Church

    3. Some while ago I recall some discussion on the Iron Church (the first building of Blackburn Road Congregational Church) Recently I came across this article in the Bolton Journal of 20 Apr 1928 "The closing of a church in this district - the organisation, not the building - is almost unique, and the little Catholic Apostolic Society, at Farnworth, that is being dissolved, would have continued in spite of its difficulties had it been possible to obtain ministers. The change, however, has another interest to Bolton folk because it calls to mind the fact that the church that they have been using for more than a generation was formerly the Iron Chapel which stood on Blackburn Rd, Bolton. Its existence will stir many memories, I know, for many folk who remembered it and its iron steeple well did not know where it had gone. It was opened as a Congregational Church in 1877 and was sold to the Farnworth Apostolic community when the present fine church was opened 20 years afterwards, the gift of the Lever family" Michael
