    3. Thanks to you all for your suggestions.... I did display the photo on one of the millitary sites recommended and got an answer straight away! It's likely Gt Grandfather was in a Kitchener battalion. Apparantly there was a shortage of Khaki and blue material was issued for these uniforms. There was also a shortage of badges and that's why a small pin was used to secure his cap instead! It wasn't uncommmon to be photographed without belts, buckles etc. And a photo was posted to show me what he would have looked like in 'full dress'. Thanks for putting me on to this very informative site. best wishes Linda Valerie lirakis <[email protected]> wrote: Hi Linda, Could you scan the photo to me please in its original size, so I can place on my website, e-mail [email protected] You don't say how old your gt.grandfather looks, but as you say he was born in 1876 it's unlikely, though not impossible, that he would have been a soldier in the war. I have looked at the Post Office Directories for Charles Willis, who is listed in 1907 at 92 Newport Street, Bolton and at the same address in 1916. In 1924 he is listed at 87 Bradshawgate. I have not been able to trace him in Heywood in 1905 or 1924.
