Thanks for that very interesting article. It reminded me of my grandma Ann (Mather) Nuttall (1881-1965) who lived with us when I was a young boy. I remember her mentioning a man called Fletcher from the days when she lived at Howe Bridge. I once asked her who this Fletcher was and still remember her reply...in her broad accent.... "Why, he was the man wot owned all the mines in the harea" She spoke highly of the Fletchers and I understand they were very good employers. She lived at Leigh Rd Howe Bridge on the "Promenade".
