    3. Martin, In the 1950s/60s there was a shop that hired and sold cine films in Bolton, and I knew the proprietor at the time but I can't remember his name now. I'm fairly sure the shop was on Churchgate and he would regularly tell me that Bob Monkhouse had been looking for more films. Bob Monkhouse mostly collected films of the old silent comedians. I don't remember any suggestion that he had a property in Bolton, rather that he would call whenever his constant touring brought him within striking distance. That doesn't prove that he didn't have a house locally of course. If I remember any more about this I'll pass it on, or maybe this will nudge someone else's memory about the shop. I'll have to watch the BBC4 programme on the iPlayer. Whenever I have heard this discussed in the media I keep recalling been told years ago that he had stuff stored in a house in Bolton - around New Hall Lane. I have never been able to find any connection between him and Bolton so I don't understand this but sure I was told it at the time. I wonder if anyone remembers anything, it would be late 1950s / early 1960s I think. 3. That could explain it, though I am sure it was suggested he had a place of his own in the area. The programme is well worth watching, it is repeated several times on BBC4 over the next week. His collection was much bigger than just silent comedies, there are 36,000 videotapes as well as just about every other type of media.
