    3. Yes, the Ashton family were my great grandparents and their family, and the Kirkham's were related by marriage, I know the Kirkham's lived at the second cottage from George Street end, and the Ashton's lived next door - They all had small gardens, and at one time they were back to back houses. I will try to find the photograph, and scan it for you, would you like to send me your e-mail address, Margaret Horrocks -----Original Message----- From: Andreafinney@aol.com Sent: Saturday, September 17, 2011 6:33 PM To: eng-lan-bolton@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [ENG-LAN-BOLTON] Wood Street Horwich Hi Margaret Thanks so much for your reply. 3. I cannot really help you, but I was born in 2, Wood Street - the front was on Church Street, and the side on Wood Street, My grandparents lived next to the wood yard, I cannot remember the number. If you look on the 1891/1901 census, for the name Ashton and Kirkman, they lived in the houses you mentioned, I have photographs if you would like me to send them to you. Am looking for information on the cottages in Wood Street Horwich ( Conservation Area ) and I believe the cottages were called Club Houses before Wood Street. One particular was built in approx 1803 No 22 - with 2 cottages attached 24 & 26 these are set back from the houses in Wood Street and right at the bottom. On the census - The name Wood street seems to be added after the 1871/81 census and only goes to No 20 - Can anyone help and why 22,24, and 26 is not listed on there ? 1. [ENG-LAN-BOLTON] Lancs OPC information - 16 Sept 2011
    2. sally roberts
    3. Hello all, Below is a message from the Lancashire Online Parish Clerks website Co-Ordinator, regarding their search facility: "I would just like to inform everyone that it is necessary to perform some essential maintenance on the server that runs the search. To allow this, it will be necessary to take the search function offline for a period of time. Maintenance will probably begin around midday (UK time) on Saturday. Hopefully there will be no problems and access will be restored by the end of the day.If you attempt to select search during this period, it will display a page explaining that the server is undergoing maintenance. This is a scheduled event and search will be back as soon as the work is complete." If you can't wait to search the website during the maintenance period, I would suggest using Google. It's possible to find the records by putting the Surname you're looking for, the place where your ancestors lived and the term 'Lancs OPC' into the Google search box. This will then return the hits that are available. Thanks to all the Lancs OPC transcribers for making the website an invaluable source of information! Regards, Sally

    2. Sylvia Wilcox
    3. Hello Everyone Does anybody know how to find out the whereabouts in the Eden St Cemetery of ancestors buried there? I have several times sent an email to Overdale, on the email no. given on their website, but have had no replies. I will be coming to Bolton on 20th October..unfortunately having to drive through to our overnight stop in Chorley. I will be calling in to the Eden St Cemetery to pay my respects to my brother, Allan WILCOX who is buried there, and the family of Katherine and William STABLES. I know where these people are buried. But I need to know where Dorothy STOCKLEY, mother of William STABLES is, and any other STABLES [there were quite a few in the area. In particular John N STABLES and his family.) And also, I need the directions to find Div. 3, Sect O L CofE Grave 28 . This is the grave of William WALLACE, my mother's first cousin, who was shot down in the war, by the Isle of Man. He was brought to Astley Bridge to be buried near his family, The STABLES. He was a Canadian airman, as his family had migrated from Astley Bridge to Toronto just before the war. I would also like to pay my respects to him. So, can anyone PLEASE suggest anything? Is there anything on line, or anyone that I can ask to help? Thanks, Sylvia Wilcox

    3. Hi Sylvia,if your relative was protestant you can find most of the burials at Astley Bridge Cemetery from the St.Paul's and All Soul's death records on O.P.C.It does't give the grave number but you do get the register number also the LDS film that it is on.I believe that Overdale are very helpful if you write to them with details of who you are looking for,my friend in Australia had a great result doing this.Cheers.  Jess From: Sylvia Wilcox <sylvia1946@aapt.net.au> To: bob@thornleysystems.co.uk; eng-lan-bolton@rootsweb.com Sent: Wednesday, 7 September 2011, 1:06 Subject: Re: [ENG-LAN-BOLTON] Burials in Eden St Cemetery, Astley Bridge..help please Hi Bob, Ah well, that looks as if I have no chance to find them.  I shall just have to walk around the cemetery and see if I can spot them. 3. Sylvia, Some time ago LAN-OPC offered to transcribe the Bolton municipal cemetery records and put them on the web for free but Bolton Council refused the offer on the basis that they were getting a commercial organisation to provide them on a pay-per-view basis. I don't know if that project got under way or, if it did, how far from completion it might be. It might just be worth emailing the Archives Department to see if they know of any developments that could help you. It has to be said that LAN-OPC would probably have had the records on-line for free by now, and that would have meant that one fewer commercial outfit would be capturing our family records and selling them back to us. The other hope is that someone local will pick up your enquiry and have the time to go to look up the information for you. It might be worth your re-listing the names with likely burial dates in the hope that someone might like to help you. 1. [ENG-LAN-BOLTON] Looking for RING, KIRBY and HOULDER in Bolton.
    2. Chris Ring
    3. Indian independence in 1947 saw an influx of a number of my family members to the Bolton area. I am hoping that some of the names and locations may trigger some memories. Francis Herbert RING and his wife Kathleen lived initially at 76 Russell St. He died in 1961 while living at 13 Russell St. Kathleen lived in Bolton until she died in 1986. Samuel HOULDER and his wife Margaret Mary lived for some time at 33 St Ann St. I believe Samuel may have died in 1960. Margaret Mary was living at 8 Fordham Grove when she died in 1982. Their son Frank James HOULDER may have been employed by the Post Office. He lived at 48 Dovedale Rd. Evelyn Louise KIRBY lived at 76 Russell St from 1950 until she died in 1981. Any recollections of these families would be appreciated. Chris

    1. Re: [ENG-LAN-BOLTON] re updates (LAN-OPC)
    2. Bob Thornley
    3. Jean, LAN-OPC normally transcribes one register at a time and usually, except in the case of larger registers, the transcriptions are published one register at a time. In the case of larger register the transcriptions are split into sections of manageable size and generally these end on a full year date boundary. However the registers themselves normally run through consecutive events until they are full and so register will frequently not start and / or finish on a full year boundary. As Sally has already explained, the dates quoted are inclusive and some transcriptions will be found for both quoted years but for the reasons outlined above the first and last years may not be complete. Here's an example where seven register books have been transcribed and you'll see that in each case the boundary years are split across the registers and that this split is faithfully reflected in the transcripts. The Register for Marriages at St Peter 1848 - 1879 with Surname Index The Register for Marriages at St Peter 1879 - 1913 with Surname Index The Register for Marriages at St Peter 1913 - 1930 with Surname Index The Register for Marriages at St Peter 1930 - 1935 with Surname Index The Register for Marriages at St Peter 1935 - 1943 with Surname Index The Register for Marriages at St Peter 1943 - 1950 with Surname Index The Register for Marriages at St Peter 1950 - 1957 with Surname Index Regards, Bob From: [1]jean.rostron@sky.com To: [2]ENG-LAN-BOLTON@rootsweb.com Date: Sat, 3 Sep 2011 10:57:34 +0100 Subject: [ENG-LAN-BOLTON] re updates Do the regular updates we get eg 1881-1906 at the online project include the yr shown eg 1906, or does it mean up to ? thank you Jean.
