Thanks for this, Anne I will need to spend time building my families. Its some 20 years when I did my initial Howarth work and have simply collected data since then. Hello Valerie and Listers, with a magnifing glass I notice that my illusive Marshes were married at Folds Road Independent Methodist Chapel, Little Bolton. I have yet to find the christening of any of their children on any bmd site. It wasn't listed on the LRO and I have e-mailed them which will take a while for an answer. Have any of you done "business" with this church? Any ideas where to go from here? Thanks for any help, Val Chadwick USA
Hi Andrea, No area is now classed as Little Bolton, but the long obsolete main division between Great Bolton and Little Bolton, was formed by the course of the River Croal. Beyond that things get open to a bit of interpretation. This map http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/LAN/LittleBolton/ParishMap.shtml shows Little Bolton comprising two separate, non-contiguous areas. This map, http://www.tongefamily.info/resources/ancient_parishes.htm which is essentially similar to the one contained in the Bolton library's publications referring to Bolton's ancient parishes, differs slightly and has three non-contiguous areas labelled Little Bolton (L.B.) Other Bolton parish maps, you will find, also differ somewhat. In most cases the definition is pretty academic because most parts of the two main areas are only a relatively short walk apart. I hope that helps, Rgds, Bob Thornley, Bolton From: <Andreafinney@aol.com> > Sorry to ask - but what area is classed as Little Bolton in the Bolton > Area > ??? > Regards > Andrea

Hi All Sorry to ask - but what area is classed as Little Bolton in the Bolton Area ??? Regards Andrea
Hi Valarie Thanks for your look up Valarie - Now that really is very interesting. When Sarah Harrison married Seth Clarkson at Bolton Parish Church they both went to live in Wrightington as and my Gt Grandmother Elizabeth Clarkson was born there. I wonder if he originally came from there and married in the Parish of his wife. ( I wonder what he was doing in the Bolton Area) !!!! I will look into this now more deeply as there are not many 'Seth's' around this area - Thanks ever so much for the trouble. Really appreciated. Can I just point out at this stage that if it wasnt for Eng Lancs listing, and the very helpful people listed on it, I would not have found half of the info I have on my research, - A very big thanks to all. Kind regards Andrea

Hello listers, Many thanks to those listers who have helped me trace many of my family. As a family history novice your advice and help has been invaluable. I am still hoping that someone will recognise Zepporah (or (Zipporah) Lee, born c1896 in Bolton. Parents Jane (nee Kenyon) and Thomas. I now know how she is related (through her mother who was a sister of my paternal grandmother) but can find no more about her. Can anyone help? Mary
Hi Valerie I keep forgetting you asked me what to do about the picture of Churchgate. If its serving no further purpose you can take it off if you like. I'll leave it up to you. Regards Jacqui

Hi Angie, Perhaps SKS could look up these birth/bapt. first, then marriage records to find out more information for you! Births: (Both are the children of James/Alice...I couldn't find Flora) Martha Ann Greenhalgh June 1857 Bolton 8c 279 Mary Ellen Greenhalgh June 1867 Bolton 8c 294 Marriage: (Could be either...Both make sense! Children's records should give you Alice's maiden name. Marriage records will give you father's name!) Sept. 1855 James Greenhalgh/Alice Fitton Bolton 8c 277 Dec.1855 James Greenhalgh/Alice Pimbley Bolton 8c 377
Hi Bob and listers, I agree, the likeness is striking. Perhaps we should let other listers see it and get their opinion.
